AsiaRooms.com - Witness Phon Lak Phra Festival in Thailand
Drum-beating and religious processions will take place in Phatthalung at the Phon Lak Phra Festival in October.
SONGKHLA, THAILAND, September 02, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thailand visitors will be able to witness a memorable cultural event at the Phon Lak Phra Festival, which will be held in Phatthalung this October.
An annual celebration to mark the Chak Phra Buddhist ritual, which falls on the first day of the waning moon in the eleventh month each year, it is being held to mark the approaching end of Buddhist Lent.
The festival will see Buddha images from local temples placed on a gilded open-sided throne called a busbok and carried through the town, with the Provincial Hall and Saensuklampam Beach forming the centre point of the event.
This will be accompanied by rhythmic beating on phon drums, a special wooden instrument covered in animal skin or specially treated cloth.
In addition to the procession, phon drum contests will be taking place as part of the festival, with participants judged on the skills of drummers and the craftsmanship of the instrument.
The Phon Lak Phra Festival takes place in a part of Thailand known for its many religious and historical sites, as well as its natural beauty.
Culture vultures can choose from a wide range of Thailand hotels at AsiaRooms.com, such as the Novotel Centara Hat Yai.
