Helen Keller expert and college religion professor Ray Silverman discusses a new book and the secret behind Helen's invincible optimism - her discovery of the wisdom in Emanuel Swedenborg's teachings

WEST CHESTER, PA, July 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rev. Dr. Ray Silverman, author of the introductory essay to humanitarian Helen Keller's How I Would Help the World (Swedenborg Foundation Press, April 2011, $11.95, 112 pages, paperback, ISBN-13 978-0877853367) will be interviewed by host Michael Jon Kell, MD, PhD on The Lyceum: Critiques of Ancient & Modern Understanding, a new program debuting on World Talk Radio Variety Channel at worldtalkradio.com/worldtalkradio/vshow.aspx?sid=1939 Friday, July 22, 2011 at 7 am PT and 10 am ET.

20th century American heroine Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf, spent a lifetime dedicated to helping the blind and the malnourished around the world. What Silverman brings forth is a glimpse of her private life and what it was that inspired her to rise above the darkest of times personally and professionally. The secret behind Helen's invincible optimism was her discovery of wisdom contained in Emanuel Swedenborg's teachings. She wrote about the importance of love and truth over materialism and selfishness as a way to help heal the world.

Rev. Silverman serves as College Chaplain and Assistant Professor of Religion at Bryn Athyn College, Bryn Athyn, PA. He is the editor/reviser of Helen Keller's Light in My Darkness (Chrysalis Books 1994, 2000), and has co-authored with his wife, Star, Rise Above It: Spiritual Development through the Ten Commandments (Touchstone Seminars, 2000, 2005).

Rev. Silverman has lectured nationally and internationally on theories of Biblical atonement. He has a Ph.D. in English and Education from the University of Michigan, and a Master's degree from Wesleyan University. He is a member of the Society for Biblical Literature, and the American Academy of Religion.

"The Lyceum refers to the school of inquiry founded by Aristotle. The purpose of the several schools of ancient Athens was to provide a forum where interested persons could present and discuss various ideas about the universe and man's place in it. We think this was a great idea and see no reason not to continue such inquiries today--but, over the Internet rather than in a public square. Tune in, listen to our remarkable guests and then head to the library!" comments Kell. The interview will be live and posted for replay 24/7 within 24 business hours on Dr. Kell's host page on World Talk Radio. On July 29, 2011, Kell's guest is Stephen Larsen, PhD, who will expand the discussion about the life and teachings of Emanuel Swedenborg.
