DirectRooms.com - Chiang Mai Hosts Asanha Bucha Buddhist Holiday in Late July 2010
Northern Thai city sees many worshippers and tourists arrive for special festival prompting hotels to be in high demand, says DirectRooms.com.
CHIANG MAI, THAILAND, June 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Buddhist holy festival of Asanha Bucha will take place in late July this year and the north Thailand city of Chiang Mai, considered to be one of the most spiritual places in Thailand, is bracing for an influx of visitors from Thailand and beyond.
The festival is celebrated to commemorate the first sermon which Buddha ever took and the format of the day consists of a day of parades and worship followed by spectacular candlelit parades and events in the evening.
Many Thai nationals based in the south like to head to the holy country of the north to mark the event and there are special events organised, such as alms-giving to Buddhist monks ahead of them commencing a 3-month fasting period.
Chiang Mai is simple to get to by air, rail and bus, making it a popular destination to head for to celebrate the holy day. Many tourists join Thai nationals in going there for Asanha Bucha Day and as such Chiang Mai hotels can get busy.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head of hotel booker DirectRooms.com, comments, "Asanha Bucha Day is a really popular festival in the Thai calendar and we often see many people going to the city of Chiang Mai to get away from the south and spend some time in the more spiritual north. So to be sure of getting a good value hotel room it is worth spending time online to book ahead."
