AsiaRooms.com - Stay in Seminyak and Experience Tumpek Kandang
Bali's domestic animals are praised in the annual Tumpek Kandang celebrations, which take place at the end of July.

SEMINYAK, INDONESIA, June 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One of Bali's biggest religious celebrations - Tumpek Kandang - can be experienced by people who have booked accommodation in Seminyak towards the end of July.

The event, which is also sometimes known as Tumpek Andang, takes place on July 31st, 2010 and is an opportunity for the Balinese people to give their thanks to the god of cattle and livestock, Sang Hyang Rare Angon.

People who are staying in accommodation in Seminyak on this date will be able to enjoy the day's festivities, in which cows are washed in the river before being dressed up like human beings, while a decorative spiral made out of coconut leaves is hung from their horns.

Any domestic animals - including cows, ducks, dogs, birds and chickens - are spoilt for the entire day by being given only the best food and any pigs on the island get adorned with coloured cloths wrapped around their bellies.

At the end of the Tumpek Kandang proceedings, the animals have rice and holy water sprinkled on their heads.

The event is another example of the respect and love that the inhabitants of the paradise island have for their gods and also for the animals which they look after.
