AsiaRooms.com - Celebrate Tumpek Krulut Day in Bali
Get under the skin of Balinese culture during Tumpek Krulut Day.

BALI, INDONESIA, May 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anyone staying in accommodation in Bali at the end of June could get caught up in the Tumpek Krulut festivities.

Once every 210 days, the Balinese celebrate Tumpek Krulut Day, which pays tribute to the musical instruments, masks, costumes and other performance materials that are used in the many religious ceremonies that take place on the island.

This year, the festivities will take place on June 26th.

People visiting Bali during this event will notice that the locals take time to bring offerings to the temples that pay homage to these important artefacts.

Many of the costumes and instruments used throughout the year will be cleaned and placed in the temples, where they are sprinkled with holy water and displayed to allow people to make offerings to them.

In particular, the ritual focuses on the gamelan, an ancient set of musical instruments that represents a native art form, as well as Lord Shiva - the god credited with inventing this style of music.

The celebrations are characterised by dancing and singing, including renditions of gamelan music.

Some of the instruments included in a gamelan include the xylophone, gongs, drums, flute and metallophones.

People visiting Bali will most often come across this kind of music as part of religious ceremonies or community celebrations, although it can also be heard as part of concerts.
