AsiaRooms.com - Celebrate the Kite Festival Near Kuta in July
The Bali Kite Festival is an amazing event held near Sanur Beach each July.
KUTA, BALI, May 11, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- If you are staying in hotels in Kuta this July, you can witness one of the most colourful religious festivals held in Bali.
The Bali Kite Festival takes place every year near Sanur Beach and sees locals and visitors stand amazed as huge and elaborate kites take to the skies.
Some of the traditional kites, shaped like fish, birds and leaves, are nearly 40 square metres in size and require teams of more than ten fliers to operate them.
As part of the competition among local kite enthusiasts, there are prizes for the best new creations, which often feature depictions of Hindu gods in 3-D.
The Bali Kite Festival is a religious occasion and the Balinese use the kites to send a message to their gods asking for abundance in their crops and harvests.
While the highlight of the event is certainly the daytime kite-flying, the fun doesn't stop when the sun sets. The area's night life is centred around Jalan Danau Tamblingan, which is the setting for most of Sanur Beach's bars as well as the night market.
The types of kite flown at the Bali Kite Festival are not ideal to bring back as a souvenir, but a smaller version of these works of art would make a perfect keepsake after your stay in hotels in Kuta.
