People staying in Hanoi may want to head out to one of the rural areas for the Ba Chua Xu Festival.

HANOI, VIETNAM, April 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anyone who has booked accommodation in Hanoi during June could find that they are lured away from the city by the promise of celebrations in the southern town of Chau Doc.

People who are interested in experiencing local traditions while staying in Vietnam would be advised to make the journey into the mountains, where a series of ceremonies and processions will take place as part of the Ba Chua Xu Festival.

This year, festivities will begin on June 6th in the western calendar, lasting for approximately four days.

Much of the action centres around the Sam Mountain, as well as the historical and religious sites that can be found around Chau Doc.

On the first night, the statue of Ba Chua - the goddess of the region - is bathed with perfumed water and her robes are changed.

The old clothing is taken off and cut into small pieces, which are distributed among the worshippers and are said to bring good luck.

Following this ceremony, there is the ritual of Tue Yet Rite, which is a colourful and vibrant parade of dragon dances and mesmerising chanting.

Those taking part appeal to the goddess to recommend them to heaven.

On the final day, the Duc Boi ceremony is acted out. This sees a local man from the village sing to the goddess to ask for good weather and prosperity for his country.
