Rev. Jennings G.E. Martin was recently honored for 50 years of service to a Caribbean church

Christiansted, VI, August 5, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rev. Jennings G.E. Martin, M.A, M.Ed., B.A., NCC of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in ministerial services.

Rev. Jennings G.E. Martin has dedicated the past 50 years to providing ministerial services and working in the field of leadership development. He has been married to the former Susan Alexander of Guyana, South America for 53 years and together, they seize every opportunity to make positive contributions to the youth in their community by awarding awards to high school graduates and scholarships to college students.

A role model to many, Rev. Martin travels throughout the Caribbean as well as internationally in the performance of his duties. He visits hospitals, nursing homes and correctional facilities to provide spiritual guidance and support and served as Chaplain for the Virgin Islands Police Department. Known for his exceptional mediation and counseling skills, Rev. Martin also had the responsibility of managing several churches and schools.

His previous work with youth includes time spent as a guidance counselor at John H. Woodson Junior High School in St. Croix, Virgin Islands (1982-1996); social studies teacher at Arthur A. Richards Junior High School in St. Croix, Virgin Islands (1977-1981); religious knowledge teacher for public elementary schools in San Nicolas, Aruba (1963-1966); teacher with Mount St. George and Goodwood Elementary Schools in Tobago (1941-1949).

An Ordained Minister since 1958, Rev. Martin received his Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Administration and Supervision from the College of the Virgin Islands in 1982, his Master of Science in Guidance Counseling from Howard University in 1982, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of the Virgin Islands in 1977. He is a Nationally Certified Counselor and completed coursework at Ceanwood Theological Seminary, now Union Theological College of the West Indies.

Rev. Martin is a former chairman (1999-2000) and member (1984-1988) of the St. Croix Chapter of the American Counseling and Development Association. He served as President of the Executive Board of the Virgin Islands American Counseling Association from 1985 to 1986 and as President of the St. Croix Branch of the Virgin Islands Association for Counseling and Development from 1984 to 1985. He is a member of the University of the Virgin Islands President's Club.
