New Book Answers Age Old Questions
If you knew you only had a short time left to live, what would you say to your family and friends? What advice would you choose? What warnings could you give? What words of strength, encouragement, and love would you offer to prepare them for the difficult days ahead?"

/Religion News Articles/ - April 21, 2008 - A long-standing tradition at many institutes of higher learning is to invite graduating students and faculty members to offer what is termed a "last lecture". The idea behind this practice is to glean from those individuals the most important aspects of their knowledge base - a condensed version of what they have learned and what information they deem the most valuable to them personally.

That same concept served as the premise for a new book just released by Millennial Press called "Last Words for the Last Days". Only these last lectures take on an unusual twist.

"Our entire civilization was built upon the wisdom and knowledge acquired by our forerunners - great men and women of learning throughout the history of mankind who shared their secrets and successes with us. But even at their best, this knowledge pales in comparison to the all-encompassing messages of the prophets of God. Their eternal perspectives offer us so much more," said author Kathleen Ryan.

After researching and studying the last discourses of several great Christian prophets, Ryan perceived the value of compiling these works into one easy-to-read volume that offered more than fifty of the most powerful last lectures from noted prophets throughout the history of mankind.

As mouthpieces of the Lord, prophets throughout all dispensations of time prophesied of the trials and tribulations that would assail the world in the latter-days. Never have their last messages been more relevant than they are right now - in the final hours of the last dispensation.

"The more I read, the more I became convinced that these last lectures, were perhaps the most important of all because they go beyond the conventional wisdom of man and tap into the knowledge base of our very creator," Ryan attests.

To make these last lectures even more meaningful and personal to the reader, Ryan laid these discourses out in her book in letter format rather than scripture verse.

"I wanted the reader to feel like they were reading a last letter written to them by a cherished family member, so that the messages of great prophets like Moses, Isaiah and Amos take on a more significant personal application," Ryan explained.

Ryan also introduces each prophet with brief biographical and historical information as well as insights into the unique circumstances leading up to their last words.

"I think the more you know about a person, the more you understand where they are coming from - why they chose to do what they did and say what they said," Ryan said.

"These weren't just prophets of God they were husbands, fathers, sons and brothers whose lives were deeply woven into the fabric of human history. And, because human nature is perhaps the one thing that has not changed much over the course of time, the ageless advice, counsel, and insight offered by these giants among men is as relevant today as it has been throughout the history of time."
